About The Spread Love Project: The Spread Love Project is a sustainable community initiative created to distribute sustainable, reusable, washable, comfortable, and beautiful masks to increase community protection, decrease single-use mask waste, and spread love during the pandemic. The founder, Tyler Wunsch, studied in Merida, Yucatán during his undergraduate studies living with a local host family, volunteering at Cruz Roja Mexicana, and attending classes at Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. Due to the high demand for masks, his love of the Yucatán, and the intention to create beautiful designs that people would actually want to wear, he connected with artisan embroidery specialists throughout the world with the majority of production always coming from Mérida, Yucatán. Mask production was critical for protecting the community and also a source of pride for the artisans during the pandemic — it also offered economic opportunity as clothing revenue decreased in sales significantly. The handcrafted embroidery quality of the Yucatán is among the best in the world and the bordador and bordadoras — Beto, Estela, Rosalba, and Ada — are so proud to now showcase their talents with these custom UFW guayaberas made with love.
